Acquisition of VTI Technologies by Murata Completed
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has completed the acquisition of VTI Technologies Oy. The transaction was completed on 30 January 2012 after having been approved by the competition authorities.
VTI is now a fully owned subsidiary of Murata. “This is excellent news for both VTI and Murata,” says Mr. Tsuneo Murata, President of Murata Manufacturing. “By adding VTI’s market leading 3D MEMS products to Murata’s existing sensor product lineup, we will strengthen and expand our business in the rapidly growing MEMS sensor market.”
Within Murata, VTI will continue to manufacture and further develop high quality MEMS sensors for the automotive and medical markets, where the company has already gained a solid reputation as a market-leading supplier of low-g sensors. In addition, Murata’s objective is to expand its MEMS offerings to the consumer electronics market thanks to VTI’s consumer MEMS know-how. “VTI and Murata have a strong strategic fit, and we are excited about the opportunity of combining VTI’s product development and manufacturing competence with Murata’s well-built customer base and technological know-how,” says Markku Hirvonen, President and CEO of VTI.
“The integration of VTI into Murata will progress gradually during the coming year. Our aim is to combine the best practices of both companies in order to offer our customers even better service than before,” Mr. Murata confirms.
